Survivors and Sundays { Finding Life :: A 30-Day Challenge }

My brother  posted this on Facebook … “The first Sunday in June is National Cancer Survivors’ Day. That’s me.” That’s me too!   It’s been almost 4 years since my thyroid cancer was removed.  We’re both survivors.

Today  we celebrate Life with thousands of others and thank God for His healing grace.  Life.

There are other stories of grace and healing that look very different from our’s.  Many struggled through treatment, hospitalization and pain in ways I can’t even imagine.  Still others lost their battle here on earth but won the victory on heaven’s shores.  We continue to celebrate Life here.  We continue to remember the Life we had with those we miss…sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, moms, dads,  cousins and dear friends.  Life remembered.

Being able to celebrate with a friend today on his 60th birthday  seems even more important now.  Life shared.  Life celebrated.  Enjoy the moments.  Treasure the friendships.  Share your heart.  Love deeply.  Life.

I found myself noticing the little things …like the little shoes at the bottom of the steps…representing the sweet joy my friend has in a granddaughter stepping through his house.    Life.

Church brought life to me on this Sunday as well.  Pastor Henry Tolbert shared “The Good News About God’s Rules” as he started a new series, “Life on Mission” …God’s plan to give life …to give  “training wheels until you can catch your balance.”  He left us with a thought that brings life to all of us …“God always has a plan to get us back to Him.”  Life!

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 (NLT)

And what about your Sunday?  Where did you find Life today?

  1. Good Morning Joy,

    I am so enjoying “life” right now….thank you for being obedient and starting this challenge. I am learning so much about you and myself…..

    I did not know that you are a cancer survivor…wow… the gift of life….thank you Jesus for healing Joy and her brother……

    Wasn’t that word yesterday just amazing….. life changing …

    I found life in every word Henry shared.
    I found life in remembering all that Jesus has done for me at the cross.
    Participating in the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine always give me life. He died so that I could live.

    Have a beautiful week, discovering life.

  2. yes. He always has a plan. always has. always will. our journeys are our own and though it may seem to take us away, i think…it’s simply a place of breaking in order to fit, mold, and equip us with the much needed necessities we’ll need down the way a bit. He always has our best interest in mind. The pain, maybe, is the giving up the those earthly things that just don’t seem to fit right on these new hearts. and maybe, when we allow Him to offer us what DOES fit, it takes time to “wear it in”, get it comfortable, in order to guide us forward. Just a thought.
