Church {Finding Life :: A 30-Day Challenge}

As long as I can remember, I’ve been going to church.  Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas, Easter …and all the other Sundays in between.  My Dad was a pastor, my husband is a pastor, and I still love to go to church!

I found life in being in community with other believers at church today.

Before church even started there was a coming-home-to-family-feeling.  It’s like gathering  for Sunday dinner and feasting on the Word of God as we enjoy sweet fellowship around the table.  We share our ups and downs from the past week and our hopes and dreams for the coming week.  Family.  Life.

It’s a safe place to cry …laugh …pray …listen …share your heart … love and be loved.

It’s not perfect. Relationships are always somewhat messy.  Backgrounds differ.  Seasons may not be in sync. Family members suffer.  There are losses.  But it’s a beautiful mess and one God loves dearly.

The worship in song filled my heart so much today I thought I might shout, “Glo-ry!” the way I heard the older preachers  from my childhood shout.  Life!

My Ramblin’ Man spoke today but his words stayed straight on as he added to the series on the 10 Commandments — The Good News About God’s Rules.  Today’s message …”Say No to Idols,”  from Exodus 20:4-5.

He gave everyone a lump of clay and asked us to mold it into an image of a person — any person.  Throughout the morning, we kept looking back at that as a visual of the  images we create …images that always come up “inaccurate” and “incomplete” when comparing with what’s  real.

The Holy Spirit used him to fashion words that challenged our thinking …

It gave us food for our soul and nutrients to digest in the coming days.  Life!

Where did you find life today?
